Accommodate Hoist for Disabled Accessibility in Derbyshire
For many people living in Derbyshire, public places and community facilities are not accessible because their personal care needs cannot be met in standard accessibility toilets (disabled toilets).
This affects all those people who require the support of carers and specialist facilities, such as a hoist, to help make their lives easier.
To make this possible we had to make safe and disconnect the existing plumbing as well as strip out and take down the diving wall between the male toilets and the standard accessible toilet (disabled toilet) We also had to alter the existing toilet cubicles to give us the room required to form a larger toilet area to accommodate a hoist.
Next we formed the new walls from timber stud, insulation and plasterboard, followed by the existing suspended ceiling, which was then altered around the new walls.
Once the walls were in place, the floor was latexed ready to receive the new vinyl floor. We then moved on to fit the new toilet suite.
In addition we changed the inset bowls and taps to the vanity unit within the female toilets, all walls were then painted throughout.
On completion of the works a full builder clean was completed and then the job was handed over to the client.

We needed to make the toilet fully accessible and this would involve alterations to the original layout so as to accommodate the new hoist and give a larger toilet.
After a meeting with John on site to discuss exactly was what required by ourselves and Derbyshire Council, I decided to use John to do the work as he had already completed numerous contracts on other Leonard Cheshire sites around the country, to a high standard and a very professional manner.
Once John’s team started work everything went quickly, smoothly and most importantly, without any hassle or major disruption, I will look forward to working with John and his team in the near future.
